Everyone who understands at least a little about the film industry, knows that current half-professional technique using the digital record is a poop according to the film material. That´s why the filmmakers who work with digital technology, trying to approach the film appearance as much as possible. The Resolution project stands in front of this challenge as well.
Output from DV camera, not repaired.
Cold colours, pale shadows, lights overexposed. It could be interesting only by better composition. Whole impression of the picture is dead and it goes near the home video quality.
The original flat, soft colours were putted down and replaced by new, rich hue, which connects all the colours into the similar appearance and makes an impression from the picture – fear, joy, tension or whatever…
Except colour corrections, we put into the image one important thing – simulation of film grain. If required, there are changes of lights and shadows.
How to create an attractive shot.
This is an action sequence, so the important is to take the viewer into the atmosphere of action. Original shot is missing especially the movement.
The composition was digitally drooped by the direction of falling characters to get the illusion that they are falling „roughly“ and „from the hill.“
For supporting the effect, the digital snow was added. The snow is flying in the same direction as the characters are falling, which speeds up the whole action.
